Google has been making phones for six years now, except for collaborations with other brands from the Nexus era. But the initial releases of the Pixel series, to put it mildly, did not correspond to their potential. They offered top-notch cameras and raised the bar for mobile photography, but were pretty weak in other areas. And this even though they were equipped with advanced components. This could not continue and it was necessary to either improve the technique or stop producing it. The company chose the first way and now we have another smartphone in the series. And finally, you want to buy it even though it is officially quite difficult to do this due to the limited supply.

Who needs a Google Pixel
That changed last year with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, with both devices featuring sophisticated designs, reliable hardware, outstanding cameras, and an all-day battery. The latter was generally a big problem for the Pixel. As a result, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro became the best-selling smartphones in Google’s history, and Senior Vice President of Devices and Services Rick Osterloch noted that in the first six months of sales, the Pixel 6 series surpassed sales of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 combined.
And that’s despite Google missing out on additional sales due to a global shortage of semiconductors, which led to the Pixel 6 series being absent from major retail stores for months after its debut. I’m talking about the markets where they were represented. And these are just a few countries. The rest just didn’t have them.
How much does a new Pixel cost?
Now Google aims to continue this momentum by introducing the Pixel 6a. The phone retains the same design aesthetic as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, and will debut at a price of $ 449 (approximately 29,000 rubles at the rate) – $ 150 less than the Pixel 6, released seven months ago.
The price for such a phone is just fine, but for dealers it will be significantly more expensive.

The addition of Tensor makes the Pixel 6a one of the best Android phones in the under-$500 segment, with Google retaining all the exclusive software features that are standard on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Many of them do not work outside the United States, but this does not make them less interesting.
Google is positioning the Pixel 6a for one-handed use, and so the phone has a 6.1-inch screen — about the same size as the Pixel 5. There is no high refresh rate, but the screen is made using AMOLED technology. This time there’s also a fingerprint sensor under the display. And the novelty made it clear to us that the company forever abandoned the 3.5-mm connector.
The colours are not very diverse, but interesting.
The Pixel 6a runs Android 12 out of the box and will receive the same three platform updates and five-year security patches as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. While it won’t last as long as Samsung guarantees, the Pixel 6a will remain relevant for several years.

It’s clear that Google is looking to compete with the 2022 iPhone SE and Galaxy A53, and the hardware offered, combined with cameras and long-term security updates, gives it every chance of success in this race.
