MIUI 13.5 is the next version of the Xiaomi shell to be released after MIUI 13. I wonder which phones will get MIUI 13.5? All devices using Android 12 will receive this update.
There is bad news for owners whose devices will not be updated to Android 12: Xiaomi will not release the new OS on these phones and tablets. The Chinese tech giant has decided to stop developing software based on Android 11 and focus on the more modern 12th version.
There is no official information on the new shell yet. So all the text below can be safely applied to MIUI 14, since they can release it immediately, bypassing the “intermediate” version.
Release Date MIUI 13.5
The MIUI 13.5 release date is August-September 2022. When MIUI 13 will be released has not yet been officially announced, the estimated release time of the new shell is based on several facts.
First, MIUI 13 was officially presented in December 2021, and in January 2022 presented the global version of the operating system was.
Secondly, new versions of MIUI are released on an unpredictable schedule, but the system is stably updated every year. If you look at the release date of MIUI over the past few years, you get the following picture:

From the very beginning of shell development, Xiaomi adheres to the one-year MIUI update cycle. New versions were consistently released in the summer, only the release of MIUI 11 took 16 months.
Next, Xiaomi returned to the usual graphics, releasing MIUI 12 just 6 months after the eleventh version. This is probably because Android 10, which runs MIUI 11 and 12, turned out to be the fastest implemented version of the OS in the history of Android.

In 2021, Xiaomi changed its approach to the development and release of updates, after the disastrous release of MIUI 12. This version of the shell slowed down on weak phones, had enough bugs and was deployed for an incredibly long time, which led to strong criticism of the developers from users.
As a result, Xiaomi for the first time released an “intermediate” version of MIUI 12.5, severely limiting the list of supported devices. At the same time, on weak smartphones, some of the new features are not available at all, so as not to cause problems in their work. With MIUI 13, the story should be similar.
Which phones will NOT be upgraded to MIUI 13.5

With each new update, the Xiaomi shell does not cease to be dependent on the Android version (the A-series on Android One is dead). The phones in the list above use the old Android 11 and will not be updated to the 12th version of the OS. For them, it will not be possible to adapt the new MIUI functions from Android 12. Hence the reason why support is ending.
It’s sad to see devices retire, following their predecessors, but that’s the price of progress.

Xiaomi has not yet published an official list of devices that can get the MIUI 13.5 update (they usually do it immediately at the presentation of the shell). Therefore, below is an unofficial list of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices that have every right to update.

If your device is not listed, do not worry – it is possible there will be more. In addition, the custom firmware do not lose relevance. Some devices will receive unofficial MIUI assembly with a higher version of Android.
Custom firmware, based on pure Android, can breathe new life into a fairly old smartphone. An example is the fast and lightweight custom Pixel Experience (PE) firmware. After installing it, you can immediately get a new version of Android 12 for your Xiaomi, Redmi or POKO, even if the official developers do not plan to update MIUI to this version of Android. MIUI 13.5: What’s New, Update Overview
MIUI 13 brought with it many features – new wallpapers, widgets (not in all MIUI regions), animations, and an updated control center. Increased the speed of the system and the battery life of the phone added optimization of work with memory and introduced other features.

The interface becomes more focused on the one-handed operation. This is convenient and necessary in the case of a large screen diagonal. Many system windows are now placed in the middle of the screen.

Update the camera app
In the new version of MIUI 13.5, you will find changes to the camera interface. Although these changes are still minor, they will make creating photos and videos a little easier and more convenient.
- The font of the main screen modes has become smaller. Xiaomi cares about the design of the interface.
- Changed the design of zoom buttons. Previously, these buttons were denoted by periods. The new ones show a zoom scale circled by a circle. Although this is a small change, the design has become more beautiful.
Also changed the name of the timer. In its new form, it is called “Timer (2 s)”. The change is quite minor, but the name is shorter and fits better into the interface.
In some models, for example, Xiaomi Civi changed the menu of the refresh rate of the screen. It looks better than the previous one but is not added to all phones. Perhaps later such a menu will appear on other supported models.

System partition
The System section displays detailed information about which memory miUI is using. The “Other” section hasn’t gone away.
There is a new way to reset apps. It restores apps to a new state as if the app had just been installed on the phone. In other words, the reset feature clears app data and cache to save space. This feature has also been added to the Cleaner app.
The developers of MIUI 13.5 are trying to make the interface more convenient to use. In particular, the indentation in the “About the phone” section has been reduced.
Now the tiles look a little more compact. It would also be nice to reduce the green camera and microphone icons.
Update the gallery
In addition to changing the interface of the gallery changed, the ability to combine several JPG image files into one PDF has been added. Thus, it is possible to convert many images into one PDF file. The album creation menu has also been changed.
Also, the developers have implemented many smaller improvements. There are no global changes, which is not surprising, given the early development stage of MIUI 13.5. It is too early to count on global changes – most of the innovations are cosmetic and are designed to improve the interface. Some of these features may appear in the 13th version of the Xiaomi shell.
